A Beginner's Guide to Nilgiris Tea
What makes Nilgiris tea special, from altitude to flavour, and how to start drinking it.
Grown across the misty Blue Mountains of southern India at 1,000 to 2,500 metres, Nilgiris tea is prized for its bright, fragrant and brisk character. The high altitude, cool nights and frequent fog slow the growth of the leaf, concentrating flavour.
How it differs
Compared with malty Assam or muscatel Darjeeling, Nilgiris tea brews clean and golden, with a smooth, refreshing finish that takes milk or lemon equally well.
